Embed

Content from another service, shown inside a page — behind the visitor's cookie consent.

What it is

An Embed shows content another service provides — a dashboard, a map, an interactive report — inside a page on this site. The address has to belong to a service this site supports; anything else shows nothing on the published page.

Because the service sets its own cookies on a visitor's device when its content loads, an embed stays behind a notice until the visitor allows embedded content — from the notice itself, or from the site's cookie settings. Every supported service is listed in the cookie consent register automatically.

How to add it

Add an Embed block, paste the service's embed address, and give it a title — the title is what screen reader users hear, and the heading of the consent notice. If the address isn't a supported service, the block tells you so in place and nothing will be published.

Configure it

Size and alignment work as they do on an image or a video, and Shape is how tall the frame is relative to its width — widescreen, standard, square or banner — so it keeps its proportions at every screen width. Supported services are added by the site's developers, because each one has to join the cookie consent register — currently Microsoft Power BI.

Tips

Give every embed a title that says what the content is, not the service's internal report name — the title stands in for the content until it is allowed to load.

Offer the same information somewhere a visitor who declines embedded content can still reach — a linked page or a document.

The consent notice and register live on the Cookie consent page.

Example

An example Power BI dashboard

This content comes from Microsoft Power BI, which sets its own cookies on your device when it loads. It stays hidden until you allow embedded content.

Cookie choices are managed from the site's cookie banner, which is not available on this page.
