A document from this site, linked or shown on the page — download, link, or an on-page preview.
What it is
A PDF block links a page to a PDF held on this site, and can show the document right on the page. Visitors get a download or an ordinary link — with the file's size shown — and, when the preview is on, the pages of the document itself without leaving the site.
The document is a File on this site, picked from the site's content — so replacing the uploaded file updates every page that links it, and the link can never point at a file that has moved.
How to add it
Add a PDF block where the document belongs, then pick the File it shows. Upload the PDF first (or pick one already on the site) — the block lists Files only.
Configure it
Link mode chooses the affordance above the preview: Download offers the file as a download, Link opens it in the browser, and Hidden shows no link at all — for when the preview is the whole point. Show preview turns the on-page document viewer on or off.
Tips
Give the File a title a person would use — the block shows it as the link text, together with the file size.
A long document reads better as a download than a preview: keep the preview for short documents a visitor should see in place, like a form or a one-page summary.
