Global alert

Global alerts appear at the top of every page in the site and can be dismissed per user if they acknowledge the message

What it is

A global alert shows an important message at the very top of every page. Choose a type for its severity, and either add a button or put a link in the message text.

The global alert is site chrome — a single alert lives in a shared template and appears on every page, so you edit it once. Like the footer, you unlock the template to edit it, then lock to publish the change across the whole site (see the video below).

Non-critical important information.

Light

An alternative to the blue default on sites where blue features prominently.

Critical

Reserved for circumstances that warrant it.

Tips

Use a global alert for important messages relevant to the whole site — not a single page — and reserve the critical type for circumstances that warrant it.

One global alert at a time — it is shared site chrome, so keep the message short and current.

For a message about a single page, use an In-page alert instead of a global alert.
